An I Spy Journey

Follow my journey (team name) “I Spy” using the hashtag #IspyGV
The logo provided above involves this journey’s main goal of completing a scavenger hunt around Grand Valley State University (GV). While doing this I will be engaging in what is similar to the child’s game “I spy”. Therefore, as I spy with my little eye different objects around GV I hope to share the findings with you in hopes you may want to spy the object too!

First, I Spy With My Little Eye…

The Little Mac Bridge is a popular place to be at GVSU. Many students cross this bridge everyday and it is a well known landmark. The bridge is painted in GV blue and runs over the deep and beautiful ravines. Rumor has it that if you stand in the middle of the bridge and jump the whole bridge will shake!

Next, I Spy With My Little Eye…

This piece of art on campus can be found after walking across the Little Mac Bridge going towards the South side of campus. This artwork is interesting because on one end of the piece the top part is whole and on the other end the top part is disconnecting. This is my favorite piece of art on campus because I love superstitions and this artwork has a great superstition attached to it. The story says that if a student walks under the art from the end that is connected at the top walking to the end that is broken at the top then the student will fail college! Nobody walks under it coming from either end though to just keep safe.

I Spy Memes

This meme is from starwars, and it is essentially Darth Vader using the force to choke someone.

This meme stems from the Japanese street fighter character that pushes his hands forwards to send energy at someone to blast the opponent.

This meme comes from Harry Potter and is a representation of someone riding a flying broom stick.

I Spy My Favorite Meme
Who doesn’t love a good baby meme? Especially this guy with his victory stance and motivating facial expression!

As a future Speech-Language Pathologist I love little kids and nothing is cuter than babies and all the jargon communication and developing facial expressions that mature with them. This meme makes me smile and excited to pursue my career as an SLP. Plus it helps that his expression is seems to be pushing me to achieve my goal!
Memes can hold importance in today’s culture by allowing another way for people to express their feelings. When words fall short, visuals (including photos – memes) will often do justice for our thoughts. I think memes add more insight into other people’s minds and they add some comedy to the online platforms for communication.

I Spy…Research on GVSU Foundation Report
Grand Valley State University shows outstanding results in raising money towards this foundation. With an astonishing $12.6 million raised in the year 2017, GVSU saw an 18 percent rise in giving. This money allows for new scholarships, including a total of 31 new scholarships in 2017. With a strong support system of donors, GVSU expects even greater financial reports in the near future.
The image below shows a snippet from the website GVSU Annual Report and further details the information I thought was most interesting, discussed above.

Further information was found through an infographic that includes the overall private giving to GVSU foundation. This is interesting because the numbers show that the highest amount of gifts and pledges received by GVSU was actually in 2010 when they received a total of $28.4 million. There is no steady increase or decrease in the pledges/gifts however, from 2012 to 2015 there was an increase and then from 2015 to 2017 there has been a decrease in money.
The image below shows these findings on an infograph from the website GVSU Annual Report.
